The Common Equity Tier 1 capital ratio was 11.18% and excluding impact of net unrealized gains (losses) on available-for-sales securities was 9.8%.
Furthermore, the Common Equity Tier 1 ratio on finalized Basel III reforms basis (note1) was 11.6% and excluding impact of net unrealized gains (losses) on available-for-sales securities was 10.6%.

Questions on Capital policy

Please explain your policies with regard to shareholder returns.

We will keep enhancing the content of shareholder returns with dividends as a primary vehicle. In line with our fiscal 2023 targets of profits attributable to owners of the parent of 1 trillion yen or more, and a dividend payout ratio of 40%, we will steadily raise the amount of dividends per share.

We will engage in share repurchases in a flexible manner, giving due consideration to our performance, capital status, and opportunities for growth investment, as well as stock prices and other market conditions.

MUFG has been focused on capital management that achieves an appropriate balance among the “capital triangle” objectives:  I "Maintain solid equity capital," II "Strategic investments for sustainable growth," and III "Enhance further shareholder returns.”

What is your corporate governance system for enhancing transparency of management?

Based on a system that combines directors and corporate auditors, Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. (the holding company) is establishing a stable and effective corporate governance structure that will include the voluntary introduction of a committee system as well as incorporating external viewpoints. In accordance with Japan's banking laws, MUFG's financial year ends on March 31. Our full year and half year earnings reports are normally released towards the end of May and November respectively. From fiscal 2004, we have been releasing a "Consolidated Financial Information for the first / third quarter." in accordance with the disclosure requirements of the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
