Q. Please outline the earnings results for the 1st quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2019.

A.

•Consolidated gross profits
Consolidated gross profits decreased by 61.3 bn yen year on year to 942.9 bn yen.
This decrease was mainly due to a decrease in net gains on debt securities relating to domestic bonds.

•General and administrative expenses
General and administrative expenses increased by 1.3 bn yen year on year to 656.5 bn yen.

•Total credit costs
Total credit costs reported net reversal of 24.5 bn yen, improved by 44.6 bn yen year on year.

•Net gains (losses) on equity securities
Net gains (losses) on equity securities increased 38.1 bn yen year on year to 62.3 bn yen, mainly driven by a progress in sales of equity holdings.

•Profits attributable to owners of parent
Profits attributable to owners of parent increased by 25.9 bn yen year on year to 315.0 bn yen.

The loan balance increased by approximately 0.2 tn yen to 108.3 tn yen from the end of March 2018 mainly due to an increase in overseas loans.
The deposits decreased by approximately 1.6 tn yen to 175.6 tn yen from the end of March 2018 mainly due to decrease in domestic corporate and overseas deposits.

The Common Equity Tier 1 ratio* was at a sufficient level of 12.36%.
Furthermore, the Common Equity Tier 1 ratio calculated based on the regulations to be applied at the end of March 2019 was 12.3% (estimate) and that excluding impact of net unrealized gains (losses) on available-for-sales securities was 10.0%.

Q. Please outline the earnings results for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2018.

A.

•Consolidated gross profits
Consolidated gross profits decreased 157.5 bn yen from the previous year to 3,854.2 bn yen.
Net interest income decreased mainly due to a decrease in net interest income from domestic loans and deposits as well as from bond portfolios, and net gains on debt securities decreased, while net interest income from overseas loans and deposits remained steadily.

•General and administrative expenses
General and administrative expenses increased 27.8 bn yen from the previous year to 2,621.4 bn yen, mainly due to the increase of overseas expenses.

•Total credit costs
Total credit costs decreased 109.2 bn yen from the previous year to 46.1 bn yen on a consolidated basis, mainly due to net reversal on a non-consolidated basis.

•Net gains (losses) on equity securities
Net gains on equity securities increased 8.2 bn yen from the previous year to 133.1 bn yen, mainly driven by a progress in sales of equity holdings.

•Profits attributable to owners of parent
Profits attributable to owners of parent increased by 63.2 bn yen from the previous year to 989.6 bn yen.

The loan balance decreased by 0.9 tn yen to 108.0 tn yen from the end of March 2017 mainly due to a decrease in housing loans as well as loans to government and governmental institutions.
The deposits increased by 6.5 tn yen to 177.3 tn yen from the end of March 2017 mainly due to an increase in individual deposits as well as overseas deposits.

Q. What is your retail business strategy?

We have a preeminent retail customer base of approximately 40 million deposit accounts and approximately 70 trillion yen in individual deposits (simple sum of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking). We will aim to increase income by developing and selling attractive asset management products through strategic alliances with the world's top-level companies and by offering housing loan products taking advantage of our expertise accumulated over the years and our advanced analytical capacity, as well as by expanding our convenient consumer finance service.

Q. What is your domestic corporate business strategy?

We have the No. 1 global network among Japanese financial groups, consisting of more than 1,150 sites in about 50 countries (as of the end of September 2015). Through this broad network, we will satisfy customer needs by providing funding scheme such as syndicated loans and project finance, as well as advice on M&A deals and cash management services, in addition to ordinary loans service.

We have the excellent customer base and a comprehensive operational base, including commercial banking, trust banking and securities businesses. We will attain an overwhelming "No. 1" position in business transactions with Japanese companies, both domestically and abroad, through the enhancement of transactions with small- and medium-sized companies, settlement services, investment banking operations, and business in Asia in particular.

Q. When will you achieve dividend payout ratio target of 40%?

A.

MUFG aim to improve shareholder returns by mainly focusing on dividends in the pursuit of an optimal balance between solid equity capital and strategic investment for growth. MUFG will aim for a stable and sustainable increase in dividends per share through profit growth, with a dividend payout ratio target of 40%. As for the timeline, we will make effort to achieve this target over the course of the next medium-term business plan, that is, by the end of fiscal 2023.
