Balancing Work and Childcare

In addition to programs and systems that support employees raising children, we are working on promoting understanding among other employees to create an environment that makes it possible to focus on both work and childcare, regardless of gender.

In addition to training and supervisor interviews before and after child-related leave, each company is implementing systems to provide economic support and allow for flexible working styles. We are supporting childcare leave takers so that they can continue advancing along their chosen career paths.

Encouraging men to take childcare leave

The Group is carrying out initiatives to encourage male employees to take responsibility for childcare. We hope that encouraging men to help out with housework and childcare will lead to more balanced work styles as well as better understanding of colleagues who are working while raising children.(PDF / 14.72MB)

MUFG Nursery Schools

In order to solve the social issue of a lack of nursery schools in Japan and to support the swift return of approximately 4,300(note) employees taking childcare leave, two nursery schools were opened in Tokyo, thereby supporting a balance of work and childcare.
  1. Total childcare leave takers in MUFG Bank, Mitsubishi UFJ Trust and Banking, Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, and Mitsubishi UFJ NICOS in FY2020.

Certifications for balancing work and childcare

Each Group company is Kurumin certified under the Act on Advancement of Measures to Support Raising Next-Generation Children. Kurumin certification by the MHLW recognizes a business as a childcare support company based on set requirements in support of balancing work and childcare. Companies that meet even higher standards receive the Platinum Kurumin certification.

Balancing Work and Care

We provide useful information and services to employees with families that need caregiving, and by encouraging employees not in such circumstances to prepare in advance, we can support a work-care balance.

Caregiving Seminar

We provide information for employees of Group companies to help them balance work and caregiving. On-demand videos also have been distributed since FY 2020.
Caregiving Seminar

Work-care support services and Work-care balance handbook released

The Care Concierge Desk allows those with questions and concerns about caregiving to consult with caregiving specialists, and an employee-dedicated care resource website offers an information directory of care services and facilities, as well as videos about caregiving.
In March 2018, MUFG also issued a “Work-care balance handbook” to provide basic information for caregiving.

Support Balancing Work and Infertility Treatment

With the growing tendency of late marriage in Japan, the number of couples undergoing infertility treatment is increasing. MUFG supports employees who work and undergo such treatment

Support Programs for Balancing

Each of our major companies offers support systems, such as special paid leave, a flexible work hour system, and other support programs that can be used regardless of gender.

Guidebook

MUFG published a Guidebook to Support the Balancing of Work and Infertility Treatment for employees undergoing treatment, their superiors and coworkers, and those who are considering treatment in the future. It is used to create a workplace environment that makes it easier to balance work and treatment.
